How long has it been since I have posted? I can’t believe it’s been this busy.

A lot has happened since my last post. Brendon and I have vowed to ride 100 miles this year to raise awareness that children with special needs need not sit on the sidelines of sports but can be apart of them as well. We are also raising money for ASPO (Adaptive Sports Program of Ohio).

The money raised will go to help purchase sport adaptive equipment for children with special needs.

Winters done…oh wait no it’s not!!!

Looks like we are in store for yet another winter storm. I am so glad I got out last Thursday and Friday and rode. Only 35 miles in two days but a little is much better than none.

I will get everyone up to date with whats been going on during the last few winter months.

PureDirt has now become Pure121 Endurance. Taking on not only the mountain bike team but a road team and a kids mountain bike team. We have picked up a couple new sponsors. One of which is a personal training company name “Every-1-Fitness”. I started an eating lifestyle change…I don’t want to call it a diet…I have lost another 30+ lbs…and still coming off right now…Praise God.

It is so nice to be getting rid of a lot of old big clothes. I am also looking to doing more rides with Brendon, my son. We may even be starting something a little bigger than what we did last year on July 4th. We did the Twin Sizzler together, in case you didn’t remember.

This year we are praying about doing a “TeamBrendon”. Where we will get sponsors, corporate and personal, for the 100 race/event miles we are wanting to do for the year. The money raised will go to a foundation, in which we are searching for now, that will get adaptive sports equipment for children with special needs. Season’s almost done and getting ready for a new one!!! Already.

Well it’s been a great year of racing and preparing. I trained hard but not as hard as I could have. This racing season has seen me finish XC mountain bike race and then start my road cycling stage of life.

I raced with my son on July 4th at the Twin Sizzler (see most of the previous posts to read more) and I entered my first USA Cycling criterium. The Rubber City Meltdown in Akron, Ohio. Very intense for the first road race. I was dropped after my 2nd lap when I blew my chain off the big ring after making a turn around 3omph and starting a slight 3% climb…Not Good in a 1 mile loop…I was lapped and whistled out. I will most definitely do more road racing.

As for 2011 we have changed PureDirt to Pure121.org. This will now combine the XC mountain bike team PureDirt and the new (for 2011) Pure121 road cycling team. PureDirt will be taking on some new riders making it approximately 6 strong and the Pure121 will be USA Cycling licensed and looking like 5 to 6 riders strong.

This 2011 season will see a couple new sponsors come on board making our list look like: Aero Tech Design Cyclewear, Honey Stinger, Ibex Sports and Blimp City/Felt. Welcome to the Pure121 family.

Just kidding all, it didn’t take us a week to get through the race…here is a couple of updates on our life as the George Family and the race.

The race day was pretty crazy. My loving wife and I got up around 4am and started getting thing around. Brendon and Cameron got up around 6am and off we were.

I wasn’t nervous at all the whole week, then when Sunday hit, well so did the nerves. Brendon seemed to not have a care in the world…he just rolled with things that morning and was very excited about the race. They started off a little late, but that’s ok. There was a huge pack of riders waiting at the staging area. I looked out over the crowd of riders and was amazed of all the ages that was represented there.

We were off about 9am and the ride started…a slight downhill start and then a slow long climb…after getting warmed up we averaged about 14 mph…our max speed for the day was 31.5mph. It seemed as though Brendon liked the faster speeds…even though he was almost asleep before we hit smith road…Smith road is in an industrial park area and the road resembled a rooty section of mountain bike trail. We just didn’t have the suspension as on my xc mountain bike.

I read up on the race and seen on mapmyride.com that there was a 4% grade around the 9 mile marker…well it was an 8% grade around the 10 mile marker…as I said earlier we were humming along about 14mph then when the 8% grade came knocked us down to 2 to 5 mph…tough hill.

All in all we had a great time and my son wants to do another race. We would like to thank all that helped make this race happen for my son & I…We greatly appriciate all that was donated and monies given…We just believe that blessings will come your way because of this…Thanks

It’s Monday, it’s a week away and through the surgery

It has been a very long weekend, but fulfilling all at once. As many of you have known my wife, Jessica, had surgery on Thursday to remove some cancer from her right eye brow area. It was a 3 1/2 hour ordeal and she is recovering well. She has been feeling tired and sick the last few days, but able to move around without too much pain.

I will be more than willing to say, “I COULD NEVER GIVE HER THE CREDIT AND PRAISE FOR DOING WHAT SHE DOES DAY IN AND DAY OUT. I PRAISE GOD THAT SHE IS MY WIFE AND SHE HAS THE ABILITIES THAT GOD GAVE HER TO STAND THROUGH ALL THIS.

As you know we have a child with special needs, Brendon, and he needs special care…I took care of all his needs plus do a fraction of Jessica’s work load and take care of her. I am exhausted and need a break. But thinking that she does this everyday blows my mind. I LOVE HER!!! I will pray differently for her and love her even more (which I didn’t think could be possible).

Well the Twin Sizzler is only a week away and trying to button up all the finals.

We want to thank everyone in advance for your support and prayer….I may have not lost the weight I wanted to, but my strength and endurance is much higher. And my recovery time between climbs is getting shorter.

My plan this week is to ride a little in the early part of the week and then take the bike for a little tune up before the weekend. I want to thank Andy @ Blimp City for all he’s done and looking forward to riding my Felt during the Sizzler.

I also want to give a special thanks to “Mmiracles Happens” in Dalton, Ohio for the special seat being made and to “Fought Signs” for the banner/sides of Brendon’s trailer. They had a very small window and is working with us to get this done. Thanks again guys.

Vacation Here We Come!!

We are getting ready to go n vacation and get away from it all for a week. Got the camper ready and getting everything else ready to go. I have started a 7 day cycling plan by the everyday cyclist…by cyclo-core…I believe this is going to help me gain more strength and endurance for the event and for the racing season.

It seems as though I have been spending more time training for the twin sizzler then even riding my mountain bike. Either way I am looking forward to doing this with my son and bringing awareness to cp and children with special needs.

I was thinking the other day when we had all these storms come through about how we as people seem to run from our problems and storms in our lives. The Lord gave me an understanding that as we run from the storms we generally end up deeper into them. But when we face the storms and press into God we can go through the storm and come out on the other side stronger and more faith filled then when we started.

Getting Close!! The Twin Sizzler!!

It’s been awhile since my last post. No excuses just haven’t gotten around to it. The Lord has been doing a lot of pruning in my life and taking me through some new changes.

We changed churches this last January and now proceeding to go through the channels to get my credentials again. We are also working at getting our marriage ministry put into place in our new church.

Also we are planning a couple of mtb church dates. A new idea for us, but we will be meeting at a specified mtb trail head and having a small church service then riding. We will try to have this service in a place where we can ride road bike and mtb from the same location.

Jessica, my darling wife, needs to have surgery this June 24. I ask you to pray for her and this process. We are believing for a complete healing.

I have lost some ground when it comes to my weight loss but gained some strength and endurance.

Brendon and I want to take this time and thank all who have sponsored us. We greatly appreciate all who stand with us for our cause and to bring awareness to the special needs of children.

Even though a child has special needs doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy life. Racing bikes and other sports can all be done with just a little thought and imagination. I praise God for our son Brendon and all the children with special needs like him and the people who stand behind them to support and give them a way to be a part of something bigger.

A Week that sneaked up and bit me…

I have been putting the miles in and last Weds. was no exception. I started out with the thought of putting in about 13 miles. I had a great start with grinding out several hills, building endurance and speed on the flats and then getting bit by a dog about half the way through the ride.

Yes you heard me right, the week sneaked up on me and bit me right on the butt…it’s ok you can laugh.

Good Monday Morning

Here we are again, starting another week. I believe great things for this week. Just something about this week really gets me excited. I believe the Lord will be doing something in all our lives.

We are getting ready for our next race on May 22, 2010 @ Vultures Knob…Please pray as we are getting things together with our sponsors, our outreach and studies. We are planning a “race day bible study”…If you are in the area please plan on attending.

My weight is now down to 215 and pressing forward to lose more weight. I have gotten the things together to upgrade Brendon’s trailer. Now all I have to do is get together with Rodey and put it together.
